Rockford is the new Gotham

There is no hero coming. No team of Avengers will right this wrong for us. We have to do it ourselves, by opening our eyes and accepting what we see without the filter of propaganda. Continue reading »

Turtle journalism versus April O’Neil

When we’re sleeping and we have one of those really detailed, realistic to the point of being creepy, dreams that linger after we open our eyes… they begin to lose their shape as soon as we move from our bed. At least they do for me. Continue reading »

The Finals taste like Final-berries!

I feel like I’ve just finished a triathlon and now someone’s asking me to do push ups for my prize. Continue reading »

Ann Romney, conservative princess

Ann Romney’s second tweet ever ends with the words “All moms are entitled to choose their path,” -the modern day equivalent of “Let them eat cake”. Continue reading »

Don’t let the sideshow distract you from the main event

Writers are human beings, and journalists are supposed to be objective and mothers are supposed to be devoted to their children’s futures -not their own. How does a female author with children ever do what’s right by her own conscience and everyone else’s? Continue reading »

The Blindergeist

…some terrible monster reaches up over the heads of my angelic children who I’m sure sit huddled in wordless anxiety over the creature that would do such a thing in blatant disregard for my feelings on the matter. Continue reading »

Occupy Elsewhere

I have been having real-life conversations with people around me for weeks now about how they really are intrigued by what’s happening in our country, and they’d consider being a part of it if it wasn’t for the ridiculous antics they’ve been watching on the Facebook forum. Continue reading »

Here Lies The Truth

What happened to exposing the truth, no matter what the cost? It breaks my heart to think my dream has become the stuff of Lifetime evening movies and the people brave enough to expose excessive power-mongers seeking control have been marginalized and ignored. How many are even left?

They don’t care if our city funnels money into making Rockford a tourist destination while our citizens face unacceptable levels of unemployment, violent crime and plummeting standards of public education. They sure as HELL aren’t going to tell you why the city is removing street lights to save on it’s (previously $2.7 million) electric bill, and spending $7 million on a riverwalk. Continue reading »

How I Found My Occupation

We are the 99% of this country who are NOT thriving or benefiting from the gradual dismantling of the American working class.

We are you, and you are welcome to join us. Continue reading »

Back to Reality

If it weren’t for my ability to construct a good story, I’d look pretty lousy on paper. This isn’t to say the story is untrue… far from it. Continue reading »

I Am the 99%

Opportunity isn’t going to beat a path to your door. When it is denied and hoarded away by a few -the rest of us must go out and make it for ourselves. This is our opportunity to be heard and make change. THIS is #OccupyWallStreet. Continue reading »

Risk Taking 101

The semester has begun, and I am in classes. Heck, I’m writing this blog from a computer lab at school. I have to say it feels damn good to be where I’ve wanted to be for the last four years… but this victory isn’t won yet. Continue reading »

Emergence of Wisdom

So the “minority” are just meeting fire with fire. Walker’s beckoning the democrats to come on back to the cafeteria and get beat up, but these guys are bringing the whole school with to watch it go down. More power to ‘em. Continue reading »

Accomplishment!

Yesterday was the perfect mix of messing around and getting things done. I took Charlie out to the playplace with his friend Evelyn (in his big-boy underwear, too!) and we played for a while. Then we went home and played out in the yard, enjoying the sun despite the chill. When his big brother got … Continue reading »

Rude Awakenings

This year, so far, has been a series of awakenings in many areas… This morning, for example, I was awakened around quarter to 3 am by my husband telling me he had pain in his chest and left shoulder, and that he was going in to the emergency room. Continue reading »

Who is Mary Diamond?

I'm a mother, a wife and a freelance writer living in the midwestern US and trying to make a better life for my family.

Although my situation is sometimes unremarkable, I'm remarkably affected by it. Feel free to comment.
