A day in the life of… let’s ride bikes!

So a non-productive post-spring-semester day for an adult with attention deficit disorder might hypothetically go something like this… Continue reading »

Conjunction junction

Why is writing always last on my list? Because every other thing I have to do is ultimately a responsibility to someone else as well. If only I could escape to a place where time didn’t exist, just long enough to pen my masterpiece. I suppose a watched to-do list doesn’t check itself off. Continue reading »

Turtle journalism versus April O’Neil

When we’re sleeping and we have one of those really detailed, realistic to the point of being creepy, dreams that linger after we open our eyes… they begin to lose their shape as soon as we move from our bed. At least they do for me. Continue reading »

Biondo doesn’t break the law: it bends for him

While Winnebago County Board member Ted Biondo writes guest columns to a local newspaper scolding the Occupy Rockford protesters for not having permits, he himself is in violation of Illinois’ Public Officer Prohibited Activities Act (50 ILCS 105/). Continue reading »

Don’t let the sideshow distract you from the main event

Writers are human beings, and journalists are supposed to be objective and mothers are supposed to be devoted to their children’s futures -not their own. How does a female author with children ever do what’s right by her own conscience and everyone else’s? Continue reading »

My coffee is cold, but my heart is warm

My first semester back after a four year hiatus turned out to be the last fall I’ll ever enroll as an undergrad. My graduation date is May 12th, 2012. Continue reading »

Didn’t think I’d come through, did you?

I’m on task, two days in a row! (gasp, shock) Continue reading »

Organizing your Facebook timeline

Visually, my first impression was “OMG, it’s MySpace without all the glitter fonts”, but as I took the tour and scrolled down from the present moment on my wall to the “Born” item at the bottom, I became obsessed. Continue reading »

Religion and politics

I’ve struggled for days over this post, since it is my big 600 (YAY a number that ends in two, count ‘em TWO zeros!) and there have been so many personally exciting events to write about lately. I’ll try to recap them… maybe post #1000 will be more poignant. Continue reading »

Here Lies The Truth

What happened to exposing the truth, no matter what the cost? It breaks my heart to think my dream has become the stuff of Lifetime evening movies and the people brave enough to expose excessive power-mongers seeking control have been marginalized and ignored. How many are even left?

They don’t care if our city funnels money into making Rockford a tourist destination while our citizens face unacceptable levels of unemployment, violent crime and plummeting standards of public education. They sure as HELL aren’t going to tell you why the city is removing street lights to save on it’s (previously $2.7 million) electric bill, and spending $7 million on a riverwalk. Continue reading »

Back to Reality

If it weren’t for my ability to construct a good story, I’d look pretty lousy on paper. This isn’t to say the story is untrue… far from it. Continue reading »

When I Was Your Age

This may sound cliche (it certainly feels that way), but I see younger people than myself moving around doing mindless, ordinary, everyday things and I want to grab them by the shoulders and make them see how much they might take for granted. Continue reading »

Million Dollar Crooner

I spent a good portion of this afternoon working on my new blogging fan page, changing the name and layout and such -it felt like a waste of effort not to post a new one. Continue reading »

Brains… cycles.

Then comes the realization; maybe if I changed something, a few things, and threw a little randomness into my struggle I could adapt. Perhaps a little evolution is in order, and the only sure way to start it is to break the pattern. Continue reading »

Google+ You Are My Hero

Seriously. Today I was coming really close to just shutting myself in a dark room and waiting for it to be over. Not that today was necessarily a bad day especially -but the last few weeks have seemed just terribly gloomy for a lot of people, and my mood is shot. So after simmering in … Continue reading »

Who is Mary Diamond?

I'm a mother, a wife and a freelance writer living in the midwestern US and trying to make a better life for my family.

Although my situation is sometimes unremarkable, I'm remarkably affected by it. Feel free to comment.
